The borders of the former municipality of Raamsdonk date back to a medieval parish, where the name “Dunc”  first appears in documents.
Through the centuries the centers of both villages evolved more clearly.
Raamsdonk developed itself mainly into an  agricultural village.
Raamsdonksveer became more and more a place for fishermen, bargemen and workmen for dikes, polders and willow beds.

The village of Raamsdonksveer serves mainly as a regional function due to the flourishing industry, modern facilities and a well equipped shopping center.

Raamsdonk has primarily maintained its rural and agricultural character.
Here you will find a great number of 19th century long facade farmhouses.
